The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown

Book Cover
StarStarStar
The Da Vinci Code is quick read and an ideal book for people looking for a smart, engaging book to read on a plane. It's a step above your standard airplane book, and certainly the subject material is well beyond the usual book of that kind. This is the story of a Harvard symbologist and a French cryptologist who are thrown into an unlikely Grail quest during a murder investigation. The fast-paced book contains secret societies, conspiracy theories, hidden treasures, and religious revelations. The author was clearly a fan of plot twists, as the ending of the book involves several. Wisely, Brown also resists a "Raiders of the Lost Ark" scene in which God makes an appearance.

i'm wondering if you've read "Daughter of god" by lewis perdue and how it compares. Do you buy in to the plagarism allegations?

this book is interesting. the farther i get from reading it, the more unimpressed i get. i think this is because everyone in the world has read it and asked me about it and i keep thinking, "what is the big attraction here?!" i haven't read perdue's book, but it does seem clear that brown based his work on research (though that too is under fire), so i guess i wouldn't be too surprised. perhaps i'll have to go and read "daughter of god" now!

I would definately recommend Perdue's book.
Personally, I did not enjoy it half as much as Brown's "DaVinci...". Brown's writing style is much easier to follow and takes much less "double-reading" to fully understand the elements of the plot and concepts presented as does Perdue's. And that's what I look for in fiction. If I wanted to learn something, I would study a text book written by a well known historian. Perdue tries too hard to jam cold hard facts into his novel.
Maybe I missed something, but I saw no similarity between the two books.

Apparently there are absolutely no capital letters allowed on this site...

I cannot believe how completely imperseptive many of these comments are, not to mention the designer of this soap box. For starters, the format for this book is rather far from original. In fact, such equations for cheap thrillers usually begin with a stupid intermediary to the reader-Sophie sound familiar? The words and time I would rather not waste of deaf, or should I say covered, ears. I'll give you a Hemingway ending instead...I found out that she was of God's lineage and walked out into the night. It was raining.
